Business Grant for the Entrepreneur
The Last Word Shall Leave You Better
A business grant is a viable funding source for start-up or sustaining a new or existing business. The majority of grants will likely focus on new or struggling entrepreneurs. There are a few categories for small business grants, such as, veteran business grant, women business grant, minority grant or local grant. Seeking funds for a small business will probably be more fruitful if you first identify your niche.
Center for Veteran Enterprise (CVE)
The Department of Veteran Affairs created the CVE to enable veterans to start and run their own businesses. The Small Business Administration (SBA) has a division for Veteran Business Development and the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) assists veterans on the state level.
Women Business Grants
The federal government implemented a program in 2011 to foster women business grants managed through the SBA. This somewhat complex, yet viable, program will enable women entrepreneurs to sustain their own businesses. It may be necessary to seek advice from the SBA or a professional to best comprehend how to apply for this program.
Minority Business Grants
Minorities seeking business grants may refer back to the opening of the article which advises finding the niche for your grant options. Minority grants may cover ethnicity: African American, Hispanic and Asian. Alternately, there may be gender minority grants offered to minority men or minority women.
Local Business Grants
Each state or county may have specific grants offered to the local community of small business owners. For example, Miami-Dade County, in the State of Florida, offers an annual "Mom and Pop Grant” consisting of financial and or technical assistance for local small businesses. Qualified small businesses apply in their respective commissioner's district between January and February. It's a good idea for an entrepreneur to become active in the local community.
