Obtaining Business Grants

     Obtaining Business Grants

Versatile and Talented Writer

Getting new business grants is something that you hear about all the time. There are many places, especially on the internet, that advertise they can help you secure grants and even small business loans. The fact of the matter is that while it IS possible to get grants, they are often not as easy to find as some would have you believe.

Business grants are not easy to find because the competition for these types of grants is very difficult to overcome. Most grants do not cover start-up costs, so if you hope to gain a grant for these costs, it is going to be much harder to find. Also, if you have never written a grant proposal, you may find yourself lost in the process.

That said, business grants can be found. Where do you find them? You can start by simply doing a web search. You will find countless resources this way. Every public library will also have reference books that list foundations that take grant applications. You will need to be specific in your needs.

For example, if you own a business and you are looking to expand your business by purchasing new equipment, then you are looking for a grant that specifically will help you purchase new computers for your computer business. Some foundations are going to want to see your business plan, an exact breakdown of the costs for this new equipment, how it will be used and how you expect it to increase your revenue. They will want to see an accounting of where every penny is spent, and how you plan on tracking this. It is very possible that you will be expected to show them what the money has done for your business. This may require follow-up for a few years after receiving the funds.
